Here’s what to know about the return of Toronto’s Taste of the Danforth

Taste of the Danforth, one of Toronto’s most beloved street festivals, is finally back this summer.

It’s been just over two years since the popular summer street festival cancelled its annual event. For a city that loves an excuse to support local and be one with the community, this loss hit the Danforth neighbourhood hard. But this year, it’s back.

The Greektown on the Danforth BIA has announced that the festival will take place from Friday, August 7, to Sunday, August 9. It’ll take over Danforth Avenue between Broadview Avenue and Jones Avenue.

According to organizers, Taste of the Danforth historically attracts more than 1.5 million attendees, and it’s one of Canada’s largest and most popular street festivals.

“People have really missed this annual summer celebration,” said Tony Pethakas, Chair of the Greektown on the Danforth BIA. “For more than three decades, Taste of the Danforth has been part of the rhythm of summer in Toronto. We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome people back to the Danforth.”

Rooted in Greektown, the beloved fest celebrates the area’s food, culture and local businesses. If you haven’t ventured east of the city, this is a great opportunity to experience the Danforth during a joyous occasion.

“Taste of the Danforth was born in Greektown back in 1994, and our Greek heritage will always be at the heart of it,” said Pethakas.

“At the same time, the Danforth has evolved, just as our city, province, and country have evolved. Today the festival reflects a diverse and inclusive Canada — with a dollop of tzatziki on top.”

Beyond the delicious eats, the festival will also feature live music, cultural performances, family-friendly activities, sports zones, and plenty of free entertainment throughout the weekend.

The countdown is on, Toronto! See you there.
