The end of the year is near and, with that, so is the very last supermoon of 2024.
Big, bold, and beautiful, this stunning display will light the night this month and can be seen across Canada, as long as you’re lucky enough to get a clear sky.
According to NASA, this gorgeous event occurs when a full moon’s orbit is closest to the Earth. This is called perigee.
“The Moon orbits Earth in an ellipse, an oval that brings it closer to and farther from Earth as it goes around,” they write.
“When a full moon appears at perigee it is slightly brighter and larger than a regular full moon – and that’s where we get a “supermoon.”

Whether you’re an aspiring astronomer or just love moonlit walks, cross your fingers for a cloudless evening!
Also known as the Beaver Moon, our celestial neighbour will reach peak illumination on November 15th, 2024 at 4:29 pm EST.
Why the Beaver Moon?
As explained by the Old Farmer’s Almanac, this is the time of year when beavers begin to take shelter in their lodges, and is also the season when they would trap beavers for their winter pelts.
As always, for the best view, you’re going to want to be in a dark sky preserve or an area that’s far away from the light pollution of a big city. though it’ll be hard to ignore either way.
You won’t want to miss it, Canada!
There’s nothing quite like a supermoon!
