Downtown Edmonton will be holding vibrant block parties all summer long

The newly appointed Edmonton entertainment district, Rice Howard Way, will be absolutely booming this season during its Summer Block Party series.

From June until September, the downtown streets will be bursting with electric energy, all in the name of community. Live music, patio vibes, and local businesses are what this Summer Block Party series is all about. You won’t want to miss out on these Saturdays, because it’s going to be a blast, for sure.

If you’re looking to get your groove on and be a part of downtown’s newest venture, come along for the ride.

What to expect

Each party brings a new reason to stop, stay, and see what’s happening on Rice Howard Way. With celebrations happening every Saturday until Sept. 19, there’s plenty of time to get involved.

Since Rice Howard Way is an entertainment district, during permitted event hours, alcoholic beverages purchased from participating licensed businesses can be enjoyed outdoors within the designated district boundary. For those looking for a cool drink to help you cool down this summer, this is definitely a plus.

The key bit, however, is that drinks need to be purchased from participating businesses, as well as enjoyed within the entertainment district and inside the permitted area.

“Support local, keep it kind, and stay within the lines,” is what the team says on its website.

These parties kick off this Saturday, June 20. A total Pride-season block party will run from 3 to 8 p.m., with live music, local art, and loads of extras to help celebrate.

Featuring music from DJ Kena Leon, Maria Dunn, and Shawnee Kish, there will be enough tunes to absolutely get your groove on. Not to mention, there’s an art show fundraiser, as well as rainbow patio lights at Sherlock Holmes Pub, pride accessories for purchase at The Artworks, and so much more on its way.

The following party on June 27 will be from 1 to 5 p.m., celebrating all things neighbourly. If you want to support the community and chum it with the locals, here’s your chance.

Ready for fun-filled summer Saturdays? I sure am, so don’t hesitate to make an appearance at Rice Howard Way this season.
