The wonderful world of Studio Ghibli has captivated audiences since the 1980s, and now a clay workshop in Calgary will help you bring these beloved animated characters to life.
Everyone is an artist at this local cafe in Kensington, and you can create your own Totoro, Calcifer, No Face and Soot Sprite figures at this hands-on workshop. It’ll be held at Color Cafe, and at just $10 to register, it’s a cute and cozy way to spend a winter’s afternoon.
Cultivate some of that cozy Studio Ghibli aesthetic in your own home this year. Let this workshop be your guide!
The characters imagined by Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli are some of the most adorable in the history of animation, hands down. From Cat Bus to Totoro, the studio has been captivating children and adults since it began releasing animated films in the 1980s.
Now you can create your own lookalike of these beloved characters at this Studio Ghibli-inspired clay workshop, held at Color Cafe in Kensington.
You can have your home looking like Howl’s bedroom in no time by creating your own clay masterpiece, which will be sent home with you to dry for two to three weeks. You’ll need to bring it back to the cafe for glazing and firing, which is included in the workshop fee, and you can even elect to paint your creations for $10 per item.
Pop in on Jan. 24 at 7 p.m., and arrive 15 minutes early to select your seats. You’ll also pay for the cost of materials, in addition to the workshop fee, depending on how much clay you use.
Outside food and drink aren’t allowed, but the cafe has a wide selection of drinks and bites to choose from. Your $10 admission also includes a complimentary Tosuni Milk Jiggly Cat. Sweet!
A heart’s a heavy burden, so come out to this workshop to add some sunshine to your winter — we’ll see you there!
When: Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026
