Calgary is a vision in the winter but in 2022, Stephen Avenue will be giving the public a whole lot more to feast their eyes on. Last November, it was announced that the annual Winter Calgary Design Competition would return in hopes of elevating the downtown area, and it seems they’ve since chosen their winners.
Revered for their unique concepts and enchanting renderings, these groups will receive $10,000 to complete their project which will be installed this February as part of the city’s ‘Out of Bounds’ initiative.
“Infinito,” a lit tunnel that focuses on intimacy, connection, and social interactions, and “Wowie,” an interactive, accessible experience to make winter feel warmer, were both designed with the public in mind and will act as a bright place to rest, relax or take photos with friends and family.

“The two winning designs will each bring something new and exciting to liven up Stephen Avenue during our coldest months,” said City representative and project leader Kate Zago, in a press release.
“We’re extremely delighted to bring these designs to life in February and create two new great public spaces for Calgarians to experience.”
