This Calgary spring market is perfect for Mother’s Day shopping

May is around the corner, and that means it’s time to start thinking about gifts for Mom. Luckily, there’s a spring artisan market coming to the city and it’s the perfect place to shop for Mother’s Day in Calgary!

Market Collective will be returning this spring with The Motherlode market, a massive showcase featuring 55 artists, designers, and makers. Browse one-of-a-kind items that range from art, jewellery, apparel, personal care, and more. We can’t think of a better place in Calgary to find a gift for Mother’s Day.

Here’s why you should put this one on your calendar.

What To Expect

This will be Market Collective’s second spring market takeover at Contemporary Calgary. What makes it unique is that it’s so much more than a place to shop.

In addition to the market hall, there will also be unique art installations and demonstrations throughout the space. Check out the Kaffeeklatch and Vintage pop-up in the upstairs atrium, or experience the Thrive with Gini jewelry-making workshop and tattoos on-site. There will also be food trucks serving up delicious bites and a kids zone for the little ones featuring Painted Wombat and Mousse Art Studios.

“For this spring market we wanted to honour the mothers and caregivers of the city, along with the incredible talent that we have here in YYC, ” states Stephanie Hanna, Owner and Director of Market Collective. “This market is a great place to pick up a little something special for the mother figure in your life.”

What is the Market Collective?

Market Collective is an independent market created to showcase the works of local artists, artisans, and musicians in the Calgary community. They believe in supporting creativity by creating space for local musicians to perform, artists to sell their work, non-profit organizations to show their projects, and the community to express themselves.

Motherlode Market Schedule

Friday, May 2, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Market admission is $8 per weekend, with free entry for kids aged 12 and under. Your ticket includes access to all galleries, and $1 from each ticket will be donated back to Contemporary Calgary.
