Out of this world: A Calgary University is hosting a pop-up to celebrate the solar eclipse

It’s almost time, Jr. Astronomers! This April, Canada will have a front-row seat to a solar eclipse and the University of Calgary is hosting an exciting event on their campus to celebrate.

A spectacle in which the light of the sun will be blocked by the moon, this particular experience is rare and should not be missed.

Interested? Mark your calendar for Monday, April 8th, 2024 and then head over to school at 11:30 for something spectacular – but don’t be late!

“Join us to observe this amazing partial eclipse with the RAO’s pop-up observatory on the University of Calgary campus,” they write on their website.

“Solar telescopes, and a limited amount of eclipse glasses, will be available to safely view the eclipse, one per family.”

This, of course, will be important because (as we’re sure you already know) it’s not a great idea to stare directly into the sun.

To find the pop-up observatory, head to the green space next to the LRT University station – but keep in mind that this gathering will be weather-dependent so keep an eye on the forecast.

It’s going to be incredible so cross your fingers and get excited Calgary!

University of Calgary – Solar Eclipse pop-up
