Grab your puffers: A snowfall warning is in effect in Metro Vancouver right now

Grab your gloves and toques, Vancouver. A snowfall warning has been issued for Metro Vancouver by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) following Monday’s special weather statement.

The warning was issued just before 9 am on Tuesday, February 27th, informing Metro Vancouverites that there is a local snow accumulation of around 5 cm expected between Tuesday afternoon and midnight.

Affected areas include the City of Vancouver, Burnaby, New West, Surrey, Langley, Richmond, and Delta.

“A weather system brings a wintry mix of precipitation to the Lower Mainland late this afternoon through Wednesday,” reads the warning. “Snow levels will be hovering near sea level, and precipitation will start as rain mixed with snow late this afternoon. Snowfall accumulations are expected to vary greatly with elevation and proximity to the water.”

The ECCC also notes that the snowfall could affect rush hour traffic and the evening commute, so make sure to check in with Translink alerts throughout the day.

Currently, there are 146 active Translink alerts, but no weather advisories to note.

Stay tuned for more info as it comes, including affected routes and services.

Here’s to hoping this is winter’s last ‘hurrah!’
