Humans like to celebrate a lot of unique things, holidays, birthdays, history, and more. But when was the last time you heard about someone celebrating fecal matter? Well, our very own Woodland Park Zoo just kicked off its annual Spring Fecal Fest.

If you’re wondering if this is an early April Fools Day joke, it’s not. The Spring Fecal Fest is actually the only opportunity to score on the most coveted compost in the states. That’s right, the zoo has an amazing blend of compost thanks to the fecal matter of the animal residents.

The compost is made from the fecal matter of non-primate herbivores like giraffes, hippos, and zebras. So that means you can use it for growing veggies and annuals. Not to mention, this helps the zoo save thousands of dollars in disposal costs. So it’s a win-win situation for everyone.
