In case you didn’t know International Women’s Day is just around the corner. Although the official date is March 8th, this year some events have already started. After all, one day is far from enough to celebrate all the amazing women in our lives. So here are 12 ways you can celebrate International Women’s Day in Seattle this year.

Support Refugee Women’s Alliance

If you have money, time, or items to donate then you should check out Refugee Women’s Alliance. This award-winning and nationally recognized nonprofit helps refugee and immigrant women and families thrive. Even a small donation can go a long way so if you can, find a way to donate.

Buy a book and coffee at Ada’s

Yes, we all know that Seattle is a tech city. And with that comes some nerdiness and love of science which is why we’re big fans of Ada’s. This spot has a delicious vegetarian cafe and an amazing selection of books for you to browse and shop from. And of course, it’s women-owned and named after the iconic Ada Lovelace.

Gender Justice League

If you haven’t heard of it, GJL is a sexuality civil and human rights organization based right here in Seattle. They focus on human rights for trans and gender diverse people. So whether you want to volunteer or join, this is a great way to support all women.

Be Bold Now: Virtual IWD 2021 celebration

This event kicks off today! It’s an online event with women sharing stories of courage, inspiration, and support. You’ll get to hear about women’s achievements and also the work that still needs to be done to create equality for women around the world. So if you want to celebrate from home, don’t miss out on this.

Shop at Lucca Great Finds

Seattle has so many amazing restaurants owned by women. Probably a lot more than you’d think so we highly recommend checking out the list curated by neighborhood. Oh Hello Again

This new and independently owned bookstore is owned by a woman. And it happens to be pretty dang unique. Because this bookstore is all about bibliotherapy, that means using books to help with life’s problems. So you’ll find all kinds of books arranged by scenario. Pretty cool right?

Now, this event is being broadcast globally but it’s worth checking out because you’ll get to hear all about women in the professional world. Seattle Women’s Chorus

If you’re into the performing arts, more specifically singing then this is a great organization for you to support. The Seattle Women’s Chorus does not currently have any events due to the pandemic but you can always donate or participate in their auction on April 24th. Plus it’s just one more thing for you to check out when we can all attend performances again.

Support WHEEL

For as wealthy a city as Seattle is, there are thousands of houseless people living on our city streets. And a lot of those people happen to be women. WHEEL is an organization run by currently homeless and formerly homeless women who are looking to help homeless women. So if you have money to donate we highly recommend donating funds here.

Eat at Hot Cakes

You’re probably already well aware of this delicious dessert spot but did you know it’s women-owned? That’s right, now you have an even better reason to treat yourself to one of their amazing desserts. Because you really can’t go wrong with any of them and you can help the business continue to grow.

Womxn Breaking Barriers

This event is all about challenging gender bias, stereotypes, and discrimination in our communities. You’ll get to hear from panelists Blessing Omakwu, Leslie Feinzaig, and Tracy Rector. Just don’t forget to register ahead of time for this one!
