Seattle is being scouted by FIFA as a potential host for the 2026 World Cup

Soccer fans rejoice! This week FIFA representatives are visiting Seattle to scout our city as a potential host for the 2026 World Cup. Not only is this downright cool but it’s also a pretty big deal because the “2026 tournament is the first-ever combined bid that features three nations, with the United States, Mexico, and Canada.”

So what does this mean for Seattle? According to Sounders FC, the FIFA delegation will meet with local stakeholders to discuss key topics for the tournament. These topics include things like “venue management, infrastructure, and sustainability, as well as commercial, legacy, and legal matters.” That means they’ll be checking out stadiums (ahem Lumen Field), training facilities, and potential FIFA Fan Festival™ venues.

In order to make this a reality, a multi-agency organization named SEA-2026 was created. Some of the folks on that committee include Ciara, Jenny Durkan, Russell Wilson, and more. Together they represent SEA-2026’s three primary principles: Soccer, Innovation, Everyone.

FIFA delegates will also be visiting Kansas City, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Monterrey (Mexico), and San Francisco. So we’ll keep our fingers crossed that the beauty of our city and its sports venues can wow officials into making our city one of the homes of the 2026 World Cup.
