Here’s a look at Summit, the Seattle Convention Center’s newest addition

What has all the construction downtown Seattle been about? If you’re talking about the area near Pine and 9th that would be Summit, the Seattle Convention Center’s newest addition which has nearly doubled the capacity of the Center.

Here’s a look at what some of the impressive new space has to offer.

Summit makes the existing convention centre even more grand by “adding 573,770 square feet of event space including 62 meeting rooms, a 58,000-square-foot column-free and divisible ballroom featuring 3,900 suspended planks of reclaimed wood, 248,450 square feet of exhibit space, 140,700 square feet of naturally lit lobby space and the 14,000-square-foot outdoor Garden Terrace.” Whew, that’s a lot!

Rather than sprawling outwards like traditional convention centre design, the building rises up to 15 stories. The building, which was built by LMN, features unique architectural features like a glass-enclosed stair along Pine Street. Pedestrians can watch as convention goers use the stairs, and also enjoy the underside of the stairs which feature a mirrored treatment.

Summit and the original arch building cover a whopping 1.5 million square feet. Together they create a campus built to usher in the future of meetings and conventions.

Even if you won’t be going to the inside of Summit anytime soon, it’s worth doing a pass by on foot!
