Ryan Reynolds supports Terry Fox Run with new shirt & here’s how to get one

Every year, the Terry Fox Foundation unites communities across Canada through an annual run, commemorating the life and legacy of Terry Fox and his efforts to raise funds for cancer research.

This year, fellow British Columbian Ryan Reynolds has collaborated with the foundation on a new limited-edition T-shirt, which the actor is pictured sporting in a recent post. Best of all? Canadians can officially register for the race & snag a limited-edition T-shirt!

“I’ve been taking part in the Terry Fox Run since second grade and can’t think of a more enduring and lovely legacy for one person,” says Ryan Reynolds, who partnered with the Terry Fox Foundation on this year’s shirt design and #DearTerry campaign. “Terry Fox inspired millions in life and death.”

The cause

In 1977, Port Coquitlam-born Terry Fox was diagnosed with bone cancer, resulting in the amputation of his right leg. After witnessing the suffering of other cancer patients while in the hospital, he decided to run across Canada to raise funds for cancer research.

According to the foundation’s website, Terry ran an average of 42 kilometres (26 miles) every day for a whopping 143 days, and only stopped when his cancer spread to his lungs on September 1st, 1980.

Today, his Marathon of Hope remains one of the greatest Canadian examples of human triumph and perseverance. Now a fall tradition, the annual Terry Fox Run has more than 650 communities across the country participating every year.

This year’s T-shirt & registration

According to a release, the shirt features messages Terry and his family received both past and present, and celebrates how his story and legacy continue to inspire people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities in Canada and beyond.

“Since the Marathon of Hope, it has been incredible to see how Terry has remained a source of inspiration for millions of Canadians and people around the world,” says Fred Fox, Terry’s older brother. “Every dollar raised by those that join or support the Terry Fox Run will help fund cancer research. It fills our family with joy to see how Terry’s legacy continues to inspire future generations to participate and help realize his dream of a world without cancer.”

As of April 12th, more than 28,000 shirts have already been sold, with $1 million raised in support of cancer research in Canada.

Shirts are available online, and are priced between $25 and $40 depending on length and style, with youth shirts available for $20 each.

This year’s annual Terry Fox Run will take place on Sunday, September 17th, and participants can officially find a run & register to participate.
