This November, our city will pay tribute to the heroes of Canada’s past. At these Remembrance Day events in Toronto, all are invited to unite in gratitude and commemorate the efforts of those who served.

From solemn ceremonies to gratitude letters for veterans to heartwarming flag displays, there are many ways to participate this year.

So, put on your poppy and join these profound Remembrance Day events in Toronto.

Toronto Civic Remembrance Day Services

Remembrance Day ceremonies are hosted in many locations across the city, and there will be several services taking place at 10:45 AM sharp on November 11th.

In addition to the Toronto Old City Hall Cenotaph, events will be held at the Scarborough War Memorial and Fort York National Historic Site, as well as East York Civic Centre, York Civic Centre Cenotaph, and the Etobicoke Civic Centre.

There will also be a new location added this year at the York Cemetery Cenotaph on Beecroft Road in North York.

Letters of Gratitude Writing Event

Write a letter from your heart to Canada’s brave veterans.

Hosted by The Town of York Historical Society and Toronto’s First Post Office, participants are invited to write their gratitude letters using quills, ink, specialty paper, and a wax seal.

They will be sent to the veterans in the region living in nursing and retirement homes, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Canadian Legion.

When: November 4th, 2023

Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Toronto Zoo

The Toronto Zoo is hosting its 38th annual Remembrance Day ceremony this year. All veterans and serving members in uniform will get complimentary zoo admission and parking.

“Veterans and the general public are invited to join in remembering and honouring the many wartime sacrifices that Canadians have made for their country,” the description says. Plus, those who attend will get 50% off admission to the zoo on November 11th.

The World Took Notice: Remembrance Day and the Music of Tony Bennett

Pay tribute to Canada’s veterans and fallen soldiers with a beautiful musical tribute.

The big band concert will be put on by Sophisticated Swing and will play stunning renditions of songs by the great Tony Bennett.

“On the evening of Remembrance Day, we want to gather to celebrate, remember, and work together for peace,” the description says.

Toronto city-wide moment of silence

At 11:11, all TTC vehicles will stop for two minutes of silence. The public is invited to participate too by observing the two-minute silence in honour of the veterans and their service to Canada.

Operation Raise a Flag

Sunnybrook is largest veterans’ care facility in Canada, and its annual Operation Raise a Flag campaign allows members of the public to show their appreciation for the men and women who bravely served.

On November 10th, volunteers will plant a sea of 30,000 flags on the grounds of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. You can stop by on Remembrance Day to observe the flags and also write a thank you message to Canada’s veterans.
