This new Alberta-shot movie is taking the streaming world by storm & here’s how to watch it

It’s been about a year since production wrapped in Alberta, but finally, Prey has hit the streaming world, including Canada. What’s more, it’s been met with some serious fanfare, with both audiences and critics agreeing that it’s one of the best sci-fi movies to come out in the past few years.

We won’t beat around the streaming bush here. The movie is now available to watch on Disney+ in Canada, thanks to a partnership with the American streaming company Hulu. Like most of the Star Original slate, the movie is not intended for young audiences (and to that effect, carries an ‘R’ rating).

Ok, now why is Prey doing so well? As a sequel (technically a prequel) to the original Predator, it fulfills a long-awaited niche that one thought would have been covered by now- if predators have been hunting people for a while, why haven’t we seen other examples?

Enter this heart-pounding, concisely shot movie focusing on just that. In the early 1700s, an aspiring Comanche warrior (Amber Midthunder) seeks to prove herself by hunting some dangerous game, and gets more than she bargained for when a Predator crosses her path. Enter just over an hour and a half of high-stakes thrills, with some stunning scenery to set the stage.

And with the Great Plains as the film’s setting, Calgary and the surrounding area proved to be the perfect place to set up shop. Eagle-eyed viewers will see many familiar landmarks while watching, from the Elbow River to Kananaskis Country’s Moose Mountain and the fields and forests belonging to the Stoney Nakoda Nation.

What are you waiting for? Make the most of Prey now streaming in Canada this weekend!
