Here’s how you can book this Oregon fire lookout that is 40 ft off the ground & surrounded by 160 acres of wilderness

If you’re looking to get out of town, booking for one of the PNW’s coolest Airbnbs is about to open. Summit Prairie is a one-of-a-kind stay built in 2009 that is modeled after fire lookout towers built by the US Forest Service in the early 1900s. It’s a magical, stay near Tiller Oregon that you won’t soon forget.

Summit Prairie sits 40 feet above the ground accessed by a staircase that gives you stunning views of the surrounding 160 acres of private land the higher you climb. It can hold 4 guests with 1 bedroom, 3 beds, and 1 bathroom. Unlike other older fire lookouts, it also has a full kitchen with running water, a propane stove, a refrigerator, a heater, lamps, and an exterior shower.

The main floor has wrap-around windows to let in summer breezes and breathtaking views. It’s the perfect place to relax, read, journal, and more. You can also enjoy amenities like hammocks and a secluded wood-fired, spring-fed hot tub located on the property. Not only that but you’re within driving distance of places like Crater Lake,  Ashland, Rogue River Rafting, the South Umpqua Falls, and more.

Now keep in mind because this property is off the grid you will not have WiFi although some carriers may have cell service. Additionally, you will need to pick up groceries before going, as you’ll be deep in the wilderness. Finally, the bathroom is located at the base of the tower and is a pit toilet although the outdoor shower is located on the deck surrounded by breathtaking views.

If you’re looking for a catch, there isn’t one except for the booking process. Due to how spectacular Prairie Summit is, it books up fast. Keep in mind, the listing is already booked through October, however, they will be booking for November after the fire season is over. That will likely be in late September or early October. The season closes on November 13th, 2023, and will reopen in early April 2024 with 2024 booking beginning in early March.
