This popular stargazing spot in BC has a pebble beach

Looking for a scenic place to watch the stars or catch the next aurora display? You’ve likely heard of Porteau Cove, a beautiful provincial park known for its stargazing potential. Situated along the Sea to Sky Highway just minutes away from Squamish, the popular BC park is also renowned for its windsurfing, hiking, and fishing options. And if you want to stay overnight, the campground has just over 100 waterfront campsites to choose from!

During the day, visitors can check out the popular day-use area, which features a rocky, pebbly beach with crystal blue water in the summertime. Definitely worth donning your flip-flops or sandals for a dip in the ocean!

The spot is also popular among kayakers and paddle-boarders, who have the chance to navigate through the calm waters while taking in the breathtaking scenery and mountain vistas. And if you want to go a little deeper, you can even go scuba diving and explore a series of man-made reefs and two sunken vessels.

Hikers can adventure through the popular Legacy Trail through lush forests and coastal bluffs, and even catch a couple of seals, bald eagles, or orcas on the journey.

During the night, visitors can enjoy the star-studded skies from the park’s oceanfront campground (or until 11 pm at the day-use area). Each campsite is equipped with designated fire pits, picnic tables, and access to clean facilities.

Note that beach fires are not permitted at Porteau Cove.
