This BC park is known for its sandy beaches & an estuary

If you’re looking for the picture-perfect sandy beach to lounge at, Porpoise Bay on the Sunshine Coast is it. Separated by the Strait of Georgia by the isthmus at Sechelt, the park is home to rolling grassy hills and long stretches of pristine beaches – perfect for the last-minute day trip or end-of-summer camping trip.

As well, the park makes an ideal basecamp for paddlers exploring the Sechelt Inlet – so consider this as a great rest spot if you’re journeying through the area.

In terms of camping, campers have over 150 reservable front-country sites to choose from, including 84 vehicle-accessible campsites. Cyclists and backpackers also have the option of staying at an exclusive first-come-first-served camping area for those without a vehicle. This is an open area with no designated campsites, but room for approximately 10 small tents.

Note that the campsites share a communal fire pit and picnic tables, as well as a shower building with flush toilets nearby.

Hikers can enjoy hiking shaded trails through lush forests adjacent to Angus Creek. Here, there’s a bridge leading to the mudflats of the estuary, where a variety of waterfowl and shorebirds can be spotted.

And for the kids, there’s an adventure playground to check out in between dips in the sun-warmed waters.

Located at the southern end of the Sechelt Inlet, Porpoise Bay can be accessed via the Sechelt Inlet Road northeast of Sechelt.

So there you have it, BC! A family-friendly destination with plenty of outdoor adventures for all.
