New year, new coaster: Here’s when Vancouver’s Playland opens for the season

It’s a busy time of year for the PNE as Vancouver’s favourite amusement park gears up for its grand return for the 2024 season. Set to open this May, Playland at PNE features rides and park attractions for all ages to enjoy, and you won’t want to miss it.

Rides

New this year is the newly constructed ThunderVolt, AKA Canada’s fastest electric launch coaster. So get ready to experience a journey through a supernatural world.

Don’t forget to check out the historic Wooden Roller Coaster (rated #1 in Canada), and The Beast, which earned the title of Canada’s most extreme pendulum ride.

Admission & tickets

Admission to Playland gets you unlimited access to 30+ rides and attractions, including the climbing wall, mini-golf course, balloon explorers, and more!

Whether you stick with the enjoyable family-friendly rides or seek some more heart-stopping, extreme thrills — there’s a ride for everyone at Playland. This year, grab a Fun Pass for $89 online, or a Thrill Season Pass for $129.

Want to get your hands on a free pass? The PNE is currently casting for a commercial shoot, and participants receive a free pass to Playland for any operating date of their choosing.

Other attractions

And if rides aren’t your thing, no worries! There are a ton of games (and prizes) to participate in that don’t involve sudden stomach drops.

There are also dozens of spring and summer concerts to check out, as well as Rollerskating Nights from March to June.

Speaking of stomach drops, you’ll definitely want to load up on beaver tails, caramel apples, and fundunkers while you’re at the PNE. As always, there are a ton of great food vendors to choose from.

In addition to its summer programming, the PNE has released the dates for the remainder of the calendar year:

  • Playland: May 18th to August 16th
  • PNE Fair: August 17th to September 2nd
  • Fright Nights: October 4th to 31st
  • PNE Winter Fair: Select dates in December

Mark your calendars, Vancouver! And if you’re looking for a fun summer job, consider checking out one of these open positions.
