You may remember earlier this summer when we dropped the big news about Pixar’s newest movie Turning Red that just so happens to be set in Toronto. Well, get this, it’s even better because local Ontario star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is set to voice the character Priya. Let’s get into some more details.
If you’re unfamiliar with the film’s premise, it follows a 13-year-old student named Mei Lee who has a unique ability. Lee turns into a giant red panda when in uncomfortable moments. Talk about a conundrum!

Besides the unique plot, folks who watch the movie will also be able to see cinematic shots of the city’s neighbourhoods, with landmarks like Chinatown and the CN Tower clearly visible. And now we all know it’s going to be even more Ontarian with Ramakrishnan voicing Priya. By the way, Priya in the film is one of Lee’s best friends.
As for other reasons to get excited about Turning Red, you’ll also be able to hear tunes from singer and songwriter Billie Eilish and Finneas. If you’re eager to watch you’ll have to wait for the film’s release on March 11th, 2022. Until then you can watch the video above to get an idea of just what to expect from this new and super cute film.
