Here’s what’s open and closed in Edmonton on Remembrance Day this year

November 11th is nearly here and many will have the day off to attend ceremonies and memorials. For this reason, it’s important to note which city services will and will not be available on Friday. From grocery stores, malls and government offices, here’s what is open and closed in Edmonton on Remembrance Day this year.

OPEN

MOVIE THEATRES

Hoping to catch a flick this Friday? Landmark Cinemas and Cineplex locations across the city will all be open so pop some corn and settle in!

MALLS

Though we’d recommend checking their hours before heading out, West Edmonton Mall, Old Strathcona, Kingsway, Southgate Centre and Edmonton City Centre malls will be open.

EDMONTON VALLEY ZOO

Lions and tigers and bears (oh my!) – the Edmonton Valley Zoo will also be open this Friday and makes a great family outing, especially for those with kids!

Where: 13315 Buena Vista Road

GROCERY & LIQUOR STORES

Need milk or have been put in charge of a last-minute beer run? You’re in luck. Though (again) we’d recommend checking your local stop hours, most liquor and grocery stores will be open this Friday.

TELUS WORLD OF SCIENCE

Science rules! Especially when you get to check out some amazing family-friendly exhibitions and then maybe treat yourself to a movie inside the IMAX, or a little light show in the Zeidler Dome.

Where: 11211 142 St NW, Edmonton

MUSEUMS

This Friday you will also be able to visit several Edmonton museums like the Royal Alberta Museum, the Art Gallery of Alberta, and the Alberta Aviation Museum, though we’d recommend checking your chosen locations hours before heading out.

EDMONTON TRANSIT

While transit will be operational on Friday, November 11th, Trains and buses will run on their Saturday schedule, so plan accordingly. In addition, veterans and active members who are in military uniform or legion dress, with a Canadian Forces or RCMP identification card, or with a Veterans’ card or National Defence Record can ride free.

CLOSED

CITY-OWNED RECREATIONAL FACILITIES AND LEISURE CENTRES

Plan ahead Edmonton! This Friday, some city-owned pools, as well as fitness and rec centres (including Clareview, Commonwealth Community, The Meadows, and Terwillegar Community Rec centres) will be open with reduced hours, while others will be closed for the day. For more information, check out the city’s website here,

POST OFFICES

Whether it’s an Amazon return or an invitation – it’ll have to wait! This Remembrance Day (and every stat holiday) the post office will be closed.

COSTCO

While grocery and convenience stores will be open, Costco will be unshoppable this Friday. Looks like you’ll have to get your massive hot dog fix before November 11th!

But there you have it, friends. Everything that’s open/closed this Remembrance Day in Edmonton. Please be sure to double-check the hours of operation no matter where you’re headed and enjoy the day! Here’s to food, fun and family.
