Another holiday is nearly here and it’s high time to plan the weekend ahead! This Canada Day, government employees and shops all over the city will be closing early or just taking the entire day off, so take note, because nothing kills a vibe quicker than a locked door.
Here is everything open and closed on Canada Day in Edmonton.
EDMONTON MALLS
Though we’d recommend checking their hours before heading out, West Edmonton Mall, Kingsway, Southgate Centre and Edmonton City Centre malls will be open.
MOVIE THEATRES
Hoping to catch a flick for Canada Day? Metro Cinema might be closed, but Landmark Cinemas and Cineplex locations across the city will all be open.

Having a BBQ? Need milk or need to do a last-minute beer run before you head to your campsite? You’re in luck. Though (again) we’d recommend checking your local shop’s hours, most liquor and grocery stops will be open on July 1st.
TELUS WORLD OF SCIENCE
They say you should learn one thing a day – why not head to Telus World of Science this Monday and have a ton of fun while filling your brain with funky facts?

Happy Canada Day! This year, check out Edmonton’s living history museum, Fort Edmonton Park, for a day of programming, food and sunshine, plus some extra special events in celebration of July 1st.

A little Canada Day road trip? Why not! This weekend, get outta town and head to the U of A Botanic Garden which offers acres of incredible gardens and make a great choice for those looking for a relaxed day outside.

For those feeling a little more adventurous, consider hiking, walking, or biking the lakes at Elk Island National Park. Prefer to do something for FREE? It’s worth noting that Parks Canada has made entry free to parks across the country.
CITY-OWNED RECREATIONAL FACILITIES AND LEISURE CENTRES
Good news, Edmonton! While most hours will be reduced, all city-owned rec and leisure centres will remain open on Canada Day. To see the hours for each location, you can check out their website here.

POST OFFICES
Whether it’s an Amazon return or an invitation – it’ll have to wait! This Canada Day (and every holiday) the post office will be closed.
COSTCO

While grocery and convenience stores will be open, Costco will be unshoppable on July 1st. Looks like you’ll have to get your massive hot do fix before Canada Day!
GOVERNMENT OFFICES
From the passport office to the DMV, all government offices will be closed on Canada Day.
ROADS
Due to Canada Day events all over the city, several roads including 99 Avenue, from 107 Street to 108 Street and Fortway Drive from Royal Glenora Club to 96 Avenue will be closed. To see all closures you can head to this website here.
