Here’s what’s open and closed in Edmonton on Canada Day this year

July 1 is just around the corner, and the city will celebrate in a big way. From activities and food to live music and the annual fireworks display, fun-seekers will be spoiled for choice, but what about those who need to run a last-minute errand? Here’s what’s open and what is closed on Canada Day in Edmonton, for anyone having a BBQ or entertaining out-of-town guests.

What’s open

Edmonton-owned golf courses

Whether you were hoping to check out Victoria, Riverside, or the Rundle, all Edmonton-owned golf courses will be open this Canada Day.

U of A Botanical Garden

This week, get outta town. On July 1, you can check out the University of Alberta Botanic Garden, a magical spot with trees, flowers, fountains, and lawns.

Movie Theatres

If you’d like to catch a flick this Tuesday, you’re in luck. Check out Landmark Cinemas and Cineplex Theatres, as they will all be open on July 1.

Edmonton Valley Zoo

Looking to do something fun? This Tuesday, the Edmonton Valley Zoo will remain open. Talk about a wild outing.

TELUS World of Science

This Canada Day, check out the Telus World of Science. From the IMAX to exhibits and the Zeidler Dome, you’re in for a blast.

Grocery and Liquor Stores

Need to make a last-minute beer run? What about a quick trip to the grocery store? You’re in luck. Most liquor and grocery shops will be open on July 1.

Edmonton Transit

Good news, busybodies. Transit will be operational on Canada Day, but trains and buses will run on their Sunday schedule.

This Canada Day, the following will remain open with holiday hours:

What’s closed

Post Offices

Whether it’s an Amazon return or a party invitation, your outgoing mail will have to wait. This Tuesday, the post office will be closed.

Costco

Hungry Edmontonians will have to get their hot dog fix somewhere else on Canada Day. While grocery and convenience stores will be open, Costco won’t be.

Government Offices

From the DMV to the passport office, all government buildings will be closed on Canada Day.
