Ontario’s cottage country actually woke up to snow this morning (PHOTOS)

That’s it folks, our days of pretending that winter isn’t happening this year are officially over. Residents woke up to a blanket of light snow in Ontario‘s cottage country this morning and as much as we hate to admit it, the GTA is probably next.

The dusting of snow hit the Simcoe Muskoka region on Friday morning after overnight temperatures became seriously chilly.

Bracebridge, Midland, Severn Falls and Gravenhurst all got hit with wet flurries throughout the night, creating a layer of freshly fallen snow by the morning, according to CTV Barrie.  Don’t believe us? Here are some photos to prove it:

Toronto is getting some pretty cold weather over the next couple of days too. Temperatures will dive to 3 C overnight on Saturday, followed by a high of 13 C on Sunday which may be the warmest weather the city will experience for at least a week.

As for what the rest of the year has in store, brace yourself. The Weather Network’s meteorologist Dr. Doug Gillham predicts that Ontario will get “more winter weather leading up to the holidays than we have often seen over the past 25 years.”

According to Gillham, an “abundance of lake-effect snow” will hit the province in the latter half of fall. Our chances for decent patio weather are looking slim in November, with maybe just a few warm and sunny enough days to dine outdoors throughout the month.
