Ontario Parks is hiring wardens for the season & here’s how to apply

Ontario Parks is getting ready for its summer season and they’re hiring park wardens to protect its over 340 parks. Here’s how you can apply.

In order to have a safe and successful season, Ontario Parks are in need of wardens to ensure the park and its visitors are protected at all times.

Accidents or emergencies are inevitable so park wardens are essential to public safety throughout their park experience.

They also help park operations with facility cleaning, campground maintenance, and water system operation, along with maintaining trails, portages, and campsites, according to Ontario Parks.

If this is a job you’re interested in, here’s the nitty gritty on what’s required:

You must be or have:

19 years of age
valid class “G” Ontario driver’s licence or equivalent
ability to obtain security clearance through a criminal background check
successful completion of multi-week Provincial Park Warden Course (which is provided)

Along with that, Ontario Parks looks at these additional skills that can help make your resume stand out among the crowd:

ability to effectively resolve customer conflicts/complaints, share important information, document observations and activities, and write clear and concise reports
problem-solving and decision-making skills
ability to work independently without direct supervision, initiative to remain productive and support other park programs when necessary
experience or education working in/with law enforcement
experience or education managing natural or cultural resources
knowledge and understanding of Ontario Parks and the objectives of their organization

As for work schedule, most of the park warden positions occur during peak season from June to September through most nights and weekends. But contract lengths may vary by park.
