Only one Canadian spot lands on NY Times list of ’52 Places to Love in 2021′

Every January, The New York Times releases a travel list of ’52 Places to Go’, but with a global pandemic putting travel on the back burner, they’ve switched it up. This year, the Times replaces ‘Places to Go’ with ’52 Places to Love in 2021′, and Alberta was the only Canadian inclusion on the list!

On the release, the Times states “We asked readers to tell us about the spots that have delighted, inspired and comforted them in a dark year. Here, 52 of the more than 2,000 suggestions we received, to remind us that the world still awaits.”

Well dang, Alberta. Well done! Out of over 2,000 suggested places, the home of the Rockies, The Stampede, and the Battle of Alberta came out as one of the picks.

The author of Alberta’s piece, Marokh Yousifshahi, is a policy analyst in Calgary who immigrated to the province as a 9-year-old Kurdish refugee.

In her Alberta suggestion, she states that “Alberta is where I learned how hard my parents worked to provide for us, and where I learned how free I could be as a woman.” Powerful words from someone who absolutely appreciates the opportunities a wonderful province like this can present in a wonderful country.

We’re definitely not perfect, but we are a place to love.
