The Oilers are setting NHL records during the Battle of Alberta

Mix superstars, high-scoring games, and a matchup three decades in the making, and what do you get? The Oilers setting NHL records during the Battle of Alberta. After last night’s game, the Oilers, and in particular Leon Draisaitl, have set new bars for playoff hockey.

During a high-scoring Game 3, Draisaitl managed to achieve a whopping 4 assists during the second period. That’s a record, and one that beats out an over 100-person tie (3 assists) that dates as far back as the 1930s. The record is all the more impressive when you take into account the average scores during the earlier eras of the league.

The fun didn’t stop there for Draisaitl, though. In last night’s matchup, he became the first player in NHL history to record three points in four straight playoff games. Yeah, not even McDavid, nor Wayne Gretzky, can lay claim to that feat. Pretty darn impressive, if you ask us!

So, while we’re forever McDavid superfans, we have to give credit where credit is due, because it seems like the entire Oilers lineup has come to play this series. Here’s hoping Game 5 gives us more of the same, and we can talk about the Oilers setting even more NHL records!
