Northwest Folklife returns in person for its 51st annual festival this May

Seattle has changed a lot over the years, losing much of its original funky charm. However, there are still a few things that remind us of the good old days. Namely, Northwest Folklife which just so happens to be returning in person next month.

Like many festivals, Folklife had to get creative during the pandemic, opting for a primarily digital experience which let’s face it, is not the same as the real deal. After all, there aren’t many other festivals where both Seattle’s young and OG creatives and unique characters come out to play. Not only that but it’s a real Seattle center experience.

So what can you expect from this year’s festival? The cultural focus is Metamorphosis, the idea of “In with the Old, In with the New”, which is very appropriate considering the last two years. This year’s festival is all about celebrating “people’s natural propensity for change.” While this year’s festival focuses on change you’ll still have old mainstays like live performances, vendors, food, and more.
