New poll shows that most Canadians are optimistic about 2021!

A new year is on the horizon and boy are we ready for it. Yes, we know, the clocking striking midnight on January 1st, 2021 does not mean all the problems of 2020 disappear Cinderella-style. BUT it does mean a fresh start and momentum towards better things to come. We don’t want to jinx it, but we’re optimistic about what 2021 may hold, and a new poll suggests that we’re not alone in that feeling.

The Association for Canadian Studies and Leger just released a report that asked Canucks how they felt about the upcoming year. According to their data, 70% of Canadians polled are feeling somewhat optimistic, while 15% are feeling very optimistic.

Conversely, 10% felt somewhat pessimistic while 5% felt very pessimistic. We’d expected that to be higher given that 2020 has been such a dumpster fire, but props to Canadians for keeping that glass-half-full perspective.

Of course, the happy feelings come partly due to the COVID-19 vaccine. The same poll showed that those who described themselves as very optimistic were most likely to say they will get the shot once it is publicly available. 88% of them, to be exact.

In the group of somewhat optimistic poll takers, 72% said they’d receive the vaccine. While the somewhat pessimistic and very pessimistic groups had 25% and 6% saying they’d get the shot, respectively. Interesting!
