New list shows the wild rejected Albertan licence plates from this past year

Fun fact: one of our favourite pastimes in Alberta is licence plate spotting. We don’t know what it is, but Alberta seems to be the nation’s capital for all kinds of custom licence plates. And with so many kicking around, of course, some are going to be rejected.

Luckily, some news outlets got their hands on government data and published the full list of rejected plates. These plates were rejected on a few different grounds, ranging from religious to sexual connotations.

According to the Edmonton Journal, 135 licence plates in total were rejected between January 2019 and August 2020. Some of our favourite ones are ‘KUSHMAN’, ‘4UDADDY’ and the super straightforward ‘CONVICT’. We’re also a little bummed that ‘GIRTHY’ got rejected, because seeing that in the wild (on like a PT Cruiser) would make our month.

Along with those ones came a boatload of COVID-inspired plates that were obviously rejected. From ‘COVID19’ (straightforward and simple) to ‘RONASZN’ (meme-inspired), there were plenty of people hoping to advertise a deadly virus on their plates. Ah, people are something else.
