This BC park is known for its limestone mountains & ‘jade-coloured’ water

Ready to explore some of the most stunning natural landscapes in the province? Head up the Alaska Highway to the secluded Muncho Lake Park, which boasts spectacular mountain vistas, bountiful wildlife, and unreal jade-coloured waters.

Visitors can take in the impressive Folded Mountain towering above the road, created by tectonic deformations over years of ecological change. The bent limestone stands as a reminder of the park’s unique natural landscape.

Further along the highway, visitors can travel across alluvial fans, or triangular pieces of sediment created by flowing water. Note that it’s a common area to spot a moose or two – so be on the lookout for these majestic, yet dangerous animals.

As well, park visitors can enjoy an array of vibrant wildflowers during the warmer months, and a jaw-dropping 12 km of jade-coloured water, which will tell you that you’ve officially reached Muncho Lake.

Campers can head to Strawberry Flats or MacDonald Campgrounds 11 km further north, where they’ll find 10 reservable front-country sites and 30 vehicle-accessible sites.

And if glamping is more your style, consider checking out the cabins and huts at the Northern Rockies Lodge.

According to BC parks, the lake’s cold, deep waters are tinted green by minerals and provide a home to a variety of lake trout, arctic grayling, bull trout and whitefish. Fishers are welcome to toss out a line and try their luck!

Finally, there’s a good chance you’ll spot some Stone sheep along the highway, which makes for a warm welcome to the park if you ask us.

So there you have it, BC! Your next northern adventure awaits.
