8 Ontario hotels awarded MICHELIN Keys in inaugural list in Canada

Some of Canada’s best hotels are getting the recognition they deserve. The first MICHELIN Key selection dedicated to North American hotels has been announced and eight Ontario stays have been added. Here’s what to know about the latest MICHELIN Guide additions.

MICHELIN not only recognises stellar food establishments around the world, but it also highlights world-class hotels through its MICHELIN Key selection.

A first for North America, MICHELIN Guide’s hotel selection has awarded 288 hotels in the U.S., Mexico and Canada. Thirty-three of these escapes are located in Canada. But let’s break it down.

How does it work?

The MICHELIN Key selection works just like its famous stars – each hotel is given one key, two keys or three keys, the latter being the best of the best.

One MICHELIN Key

This is given to those that are considered a very special stay. “This is a true gem with its own character and personality. It may break the mold, offer something different or simply be one of the best of its type,” shares the guide.

“Service always goes the extra mile and provides significantly more than similarly priced establishments.”

Two MICHELIN Keys

This is given to hotels that are considered an exceptional stay. Think of hotels with character, personality, beautiful design, or architecture – those are given two keys.

Three MICHELIN Keys

The creme de la creme – an extraordinary stay!

“It’s all about astonishment and indulgence here – this is the ultimate in comfort and service, style and elegance,” shared the guide. “It is one of the world’s most remarkable and extraordinary hotels and a destination in itself for that trip of a lifetime.”

MICHELIN Keys in Ontario

According to the guide, out of the 33 Canadian hotels on the list, eight of them are in Ontario with the majority in Toronto.

Unfortunately, our hotels did not get awarded three keys BUT this is just the beginning. We were, however, awarded one and two keys.

The hotels awarded two keys were the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto at Yorkville and The Hazelton Hotel Toronto.

As for the one key stays, those were:

And there you have it! What do you think about this list? Have you stayed at one of these MICHELIN Key hotels?
