Meet the Calgary singer-songwriter behind BTS’s massive hit ‘Butter’

South Korean K-Pop boy band, BTS, has practically taken over the world with their fresh fits, perfectly quaffed hair, and catchy AF tunes; but we don’t need to tell you guys that, it’s nearly impossible to go anywhere without seeing their name or hearing their latest song melt through a set of speakers. What you may not know, is that, despite calling the other side of the globe home, they’ve actually got an insanely cool connection to YYC, one that has played a pretty crucial part in their success.

With a client list that includes the likes of Lilly Allen, Tamia, Little Mix, Lil Nas X, Jesse J, and “Ja-SON Der-ULO!” Calgary-born singer-songwriter, Jenna Andrews is an actual magician, turning every piece of music that she writes into pure gold.

Not only does she currently have a hit song in the UK, but she also had a hand in writing BTS’s massive song, Butter, which has been the number 1 song in 10 different countries since its release in late May.

In addition to climbing charts all over the planet, it also holds the title for Spotify’s biggest song debut in history with 20.9 million streams in a single day – which is un-freaking-real.

“So So Beyond APPRECIATIVE to have co-written #BUTTER with some of my best friends and new-found family!” she wrote on Instagram. “I appreciate all members of BTS and feel really beyond grateful to work with all 7 of them!”

Before releasing her first song Tumblin’ Down in 2010 and making it big, Andrews actually went to school here in YYC at Mount Royal University for Broadcast Journalism, writing songs, singing, and collaborating in what we can only imagine was little spare time. Calgarians – we’re ambitious.

Of course, like most dedicated creatives, she did eventually move to Vancouver after graduation to pursue her music career full-time, which is really where everything fell into place and man are we glad it did. The world needs more happy bops!

If you’d like to vibe your way into the afternoon and support the local legend, Jenna Andrews, you can stream Butter on Spotify here – but beware, this song is an absolute earworm – and man, will it burrow deep.

Good luck getting it out of your head!
