As if Toronto couldn’t get any more exciting! Lunar New Year celebrations will take over the city this February and Toronto’s STACKT market is joining in on the fun. The beloved downtown space is hosting its very first Lunar New Year Market, featuring local sellers, live demos and even movie screenings.
It’s the Year of the Snake, and the annual cultural celebration kicking off on Jan. 29, 2025, marking the first new moon of the lunar calendar. The fun and excitement continue for 15 days.
That being said, on Feb. 2, 2025, the community space will host a curated selection of local vendors with artisanal goods, downright heavenly eats, and refreshing drinks that will quench that thirst – all for the love of the Lunar New Year. And it’s FREE.
Vendors include Friday Sweet Society with baked goods, Andrea with Tarot readings, Nuttea serving handcraft drinks, and Souperwell with hand-crafted traditional Chinese herbal soups.
If you are hungry while there, you can check out a live dumpling demonstration and cookbook signing by Chef Trevor Lui from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
“Cultural events like this are incredibly important to STACKT,” shared the team with me. “We’re dedicated to fostering community connections and celebrating diverse traditions, and events like these play a key role in creating those shared experiences.”
Are you a movie buff? Me too! You’ll be glad to know you can also catch East Asian-themed movies at the Lunar New Year market inside the Blue Moon Brewery. They’ll be screening hello and Crazy Rich Asians.
And if you’d rather just warm up with delicious eats, check out Fat Bao Eats inside the Brewery. Prosperity Dumpling Specials will be available for $8.88 and Longevity Noodle Bowl Specials for the same price too.
The fun doesn’t seem to end though! Take part in traditional Korean Board games and dance to the beats of DJ Nari from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Did I mention this is all free? You read that right. It’s a fantastic way to not only take part in a wonderful cultural experience but also welcome in the New Year in a fun way.
