Toronto’s favourite winter-long art party is coming back this weekend

Winter is a time for staying warm and having fun indoors, and the best place to do that is Long Winter Toronto.

Long Winter is an all-ages, pay-what-you-can art series that has been a tradition in our city for 11 years strong.

The event series takes place throughout the season and has occupied various unique venues over the years, from the Great Hall to Gladstone House to Galleria Mall.

The space is transformed into a multi-level, interactive space where artists showcase their talents and locals mix, mingle and party the night away.

Every winter, the event features over 200 local artists and collectives, with over 5,000 participants.

The performances “include a “broad cross-section of Toronto’s cultural and sub-cultural artistic activity,” according to the description.

That includes music, interpretive dance, performance art, theatre, large-scale sculptural installations, projections, visual art, and interactive presentations like original video games.

Long Winter has even been recognized by the likes of Pitchfork and Rolling Stone, who compared it to the “anarchic, circus-like atmosphere of first-wave Lollapalooza.”

Volume 1 of this year’s Long Winter series will take place this Friday, December 9th. Nobody will be turned away for lack of funds, but the suggested admission fee is $20.

The featured musicians and artists have also been announced, and you can find the full list here.

If there’s anything we can appreciate about our long winter in Toronto, it’s Long Winter Toronto. We’ll see you there!
