Toronto’s nightlife has many callings, but for those looking to experience a taste of old-world culture with a new twist, you can’t beat the splendour of a night at the opera.
The Canadian Opera Company is bringing a timeless classic, La Bohème, to the Toronto stage. While the rest of your October might be packed with Halloween activities, we encourage you to step outside of your usual and try something a little different…
The Canadian Opera Company (COC) is based in Toronto and is one the most interesting opera houses in North America. It’s garnered an international reputation for creative excellence and innovative programming. And its home base at The Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts was specially constructed for opera performance, giving it unreal acoustics you have to hear to believe.
One of the COC’s current October productions is La Bohème. This classic tells a tale of love, sacrifice, and struggling artists set against the bohemian streets of 19th century Paris. This story was actually the inspiration behind the 1996 Broadway musical Rent, and now you can see it for yourself!
What makes this production of La Bohème extra special is that it features real-life married couple tenor Pene Pati and soprano Amina Edris as the opera’s leading lovers, Mimi and Rodolfo. Sit back and enjoy how their incredible chemistry adds a whole new level of authenticity and depth to their roles.
