Kevin Durant would “absolutely love” to be a part of the Seattle SuperSonics NBA return

If the Seattle SuperSonics were to return to the NBA through an expansion, Kevin Durant wants to be a part of it.

In a recent interview for Boardroom, the basketball superstar shared that he would want to have a hand in bringing back the franchise that started his journey in the NBA in 2007.

Durant was drafted second overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 2007 NBA Draft, playing one season before the team was purchased and moved to Oklahoma City. The 35-year-old currently plays for the Phoenix Suns.

In his interview with Boardroom Durant expressed his interest in being a part of the Seattle SuperSonics through a possible league expansion saying, “I believe it will be back. I believe it will be part of the expansion in the league.”

“To help run the team, help guide the team, as they come back into the league, I would absolutely love that.”

He continued, “When I retire, that’s a dream come true. That’s probably one of the only things that I would really lock in like I was playing again. It would feel close to that.”

Durant spoke about the importance of how having an NBA team in a city can inspire young kids stating, “I believe that if a city has an NBA team you will get more and more kids inspired to want to become NBA players.”

The basketball star also discussed playing for team USA in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics as the current all-time leading scorer in Olympic men’s history saying, “I’m excited about being around that USA bond, that brotherhood again man. It’s unmatched.”

While there is no confirmation of the Seattle SuperSonics being apart of an NBA expansion, we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed!
