It’s been a while coming, but Jarome Iginla was just inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame! The former Flames captain and all-around Calgary icon was among 5 players to be inducted this year.

Marian Hossa, Kevin Lowe, Doug Wilson and Canadian national team goaltender Kim St-Pierre were also on the list. Our favourite part? Iginla got the call from none other than Lanny McDonald, the current chair of the board.

Now that’s some nice icing on a very nice cake. Iginla played over 1,200 games in Calgary, with accolades ranging from the Art Ross Trophy to a couple of Olympic golds.

However, we’re definitely going to remember Iginla for what he brought to Calgary. Class, professionalism, skill, determination… these were all qualities that every Calgarian could be proud of, whether they cared about hockey or not.

So, thanks Iginla. Maybe one day there’ll be an alumni game and we can chill in the dome with you once again.
