Toronto is about to shine bright with five immersive winter light installations

Illuminite, Toronto’s annual winter celebration of light, art, and public space, kicks off this week with an exciting new theme. Explore five immersive installations lighting up locations in the Downtown Yonge neighbourhood.

Celebrating its third year, Illuminite will explore the theme of “Play” through several immersive light-based installations, according to the Downtown Yonge BIA. They will be spread across five unique locations in the Downtown Yonge area starting Feb. 13, 2026.

“Each site will feature a playful, interactive experience designed to spark joy, movement, and connection in the heart of winter,” adds organizers. “Whether you’re a curious explorer or just passing through, Illuminite 2026 invites everyone to pause, play, and light up the city together.”

If you’re eager to see these works of art illuminate your winter, here’s a rundown of what to expect during Illuminite:

Illuminite 2026

Oval Swings

Glowing swings! Or better known as Oval Swings, this LED display brings playful energy and luminous fun, inviting you to “pause, connect, and capture the moment.”

Where: 777 Bay Plaza

Horizon

Immerse yourself in a glowing field of motion and colour. This large-scale 3D LED matrix “visualizes waves of light as they move through space and time,” shares organizers. It features over 3,000 LEDs and interactive controls.

Where: College Park, Yonge Street Entrance — 420 Yonge St.

Hearts at Play

Check out this vibrant trio of interactive sculptures at Granby Parkette. Hearts at Play celebrates community, creativity, and connection in the community.

Where: Granby Parkette — 431 Yonge St.

POP! By Gentilhomme

“Something playful is bubbling beneath the surface at Sankofa Square, and it’s ready to POP!” shares organizers. “Hidden inside glowing monoliths are five quirky characters just waiting to burst out and start the party.”

In order toset them free, you’ll need to call out, sing, or dance your way into their world. Each figure responds with movement, sound, and colour. Talk about immersive!

Domino Effect by INGRID INGRID

Domino Effect invites all to play, collaborate, and co-create a symphony of sound and light with giant pastel-coloured dominoes.

“Each domino triggers a unique note, from vocals to percussion, and every cascade becomes a playful performance of rhythm, colour, and connection,” reads its description. “Work together to build longer sequences, reverse the direction, and unlock new melodies in this interactive orchestra of joy.”
