This short hike on Lopez Island leads to historic rocky cliffs with panoramic water views

Embark on a thrilling adventure with a short loop hike that unveils the hidden wonders of Lopez Island. The Ice Berg Point trail, promises an exhilarating yet easy journey to mesmerizing rock cliffs that’s suitable for everyone – children, dogs on leash, and adventurers of all ages.

The 3 mile roundtrip trail is adorned with wind blown, contorted trees, inviting adventerous hikers to try climbing. As you continue, you’ll encounter a ship warning light perched on the rocks, a testament to the island’s maritime history. Along your journey you can marvel at the breathtaking views from the cliffs, offering a panoramic spectacle stretching towards the majestic Olympic Peninsula and back to other parts of Lopez.

Delve into the island’s past as you explore Iceberg Point, once a bustling reef net site. Imagine a time when locals could drive up to the shore and collect fresh fish directly from the boats.

The trail is not just a feast for the eyes; it’s a botanical wonderland in early summer, with wildflowers in full bloom. If you’re lucky you may catch orca whales passing through the offshore waters.

If you plan on visiting you’ll begin from the Agate Beach County Park parking lot, down the gravel road, following the sign high on a telephone pole indicating the trail path to Iceberg Point. As you are may through or near private property, it is important to be respectful, according to the Washington Trails Association.
