Heads up, Calgary, our rooftop parkade known as High Park is about to get a serious upgrade.
Opened back in the fall of 2020, High Park, located on top of the 10th Avenue parkade, is a concept born from a collaboration between the Beltline Neighbourhood Association, Calgary Parking, and the Beltline Urban Murals Project (BUMP). Designed by Public City Architecture, the first phase saw colourful setups and photo ops encouraging Calgarians to get out and about during the pandemic.
Now, with restrictions lifted and the city wide open, High Park is looking to take its spot as the ultimate summertime destination. Thanks to a revitalization investment from the Canadian government announced Wednesday, March 16, the rooftop parkade will get $200,000 in new upgrades.
What can we expect? As per the government release, High Park in downtown Calgary will be outfitted “with an outdoor stage, fire pits, seating, murals, and activity stations.” This will be in addition to the already stunning murals that cover most vantage points of the parkade.
Speaking of vantage points, you’ll be hard-pressed to find better 360° views of downtown Calgary anywhere in the city.
There is no exact timeline on when the upgrades will be finished, but High Park and its stunning sights is open daily for you to explore.
