Here’s why BC will still lose an hour of sleep this weekend

We’ve got a lot of stuff to look forward to this spring, but losing an hour of sleep this weekend for Daylight Savings Time is not on that list. And, you might be wondering, why does BC even have Daylight Savings? Didn’t we vote to get rid of it a couple of years ago? Good questions, and here’s the answer.

Back in 2019, a whopping 93% of respondents in a public engagement said they’d like to get rid of the twice-yearly changes. Well, BC took note, making a new amendment that would bring in a year-round Daylight Savings Time. So, it’s obvious that BC is ready to make the switch.

But, we can’t do it alone. The amendment makes it clear that BC will only adopt the new time if a few American states hop in as well. These days, we’re basically waiting for California, Oregon, Washington and Yukon to get their acts together. Specifically, California, which has been messing around with the idea for a few years now. The other states, and Yukon, are more or less good to go.

And, now you know why BC is still going to lose an hour of sleep this weekend for Daylight Savings Time. Here’s hoping that it’s one of the last years we do so.
