Get ready hockey fans, because the IIHF World Junior Championship kicks off in Canada next week! Countries from all over the world are sending their rising stars to the Albertan cities of Edmonton and Red Deer to compete in the 10 day-long tournament. And, we’ve got all the info you need to know about it.
Split into two groups of five, each team will play 4 round robin games over 6 days, from December 26th to 31st. The teams with the best records will then face off in a series of quarter-finals, then semi-finals, leading up to the championship game on Wednesday, January 5th.

Maybe one of the biggest moves made this year comes from Canada’s own team, as well! Connor Bedard, the North Vancouver centre for the Regina Pats, has become just the 7th player ever to make the team at age 16. He joins a very elite group of players to get the opportunity, including Wayne Gretzky, Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid. Yeah, we’ll definitely have to keep an eye on him during the tournament.
Canada’s first game will be against Czechoslovakia on Sunday, December 26th. You’ll be able to catch all the games on the TSN network. Or, if you live in Alberta, you can still get tickets to see the games live!
