Here’s what to know about border restrictions & quarantine for fully vaxxed Canadians

As the light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel gets brighter every day, the country is slowly loosening restrictions from coast to coast. Soon border restrictions are set to ease for fully vaccinated Canadians and permanent residents hoping to enter the country.

According to Health Minister Patty Hajdu, the government is hoping to relax border restrictions in stages, beginning as early as July. The biggest change? An end to the mandatory hotel stay as part of travellers required quarantine period.

As it stands now, folks entering the country by land are required to self-isolate for 14-days upon arrival. They have to take a COVID-19 test when they enter the country and another during their quarantine period. Folks arriving by air have been required to isolate in federally mandated facilities for up to 72 hours while waiting for results from their mandatory PCR COVID-19 test.

It’s important to note, the ease in restrictions will only apply to Canadian citizens who have received BOTH doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. This relaxation of rules does not apply to tourists.

According to the health minister, Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are fully vaccinated will still be required to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival and to self-isolate until the test comes back negative.
