Here’s what could open up when Alberta moves to Step 3

It’s been quite the ride since the province entered stage 1 of the government’s plan to ease COVID restrictions in Alberta. In nearly two months we’ve accomplished so much, but we’ve still got a long road ahead.

As some of you may know already, Albert’s next move will be to enter the third phase, as long as hospitalizations remain under the 300 person benchmark.

With 280 beds in use (as of March 23rd) we have officially met all these requirements; however, Health Minister, Tyler Shandro said that we’re not quite ready yet due to a recent rise in COVID cases.

While this is an unfortunate truth, we’re hopeful that with this announcement and a little mindfulness, we could get ourselves back on track. In the event that this does happen, here’s what we have to look forward to in the coming weeks if given the go-ahead by officials:

RECREATION

First off, adult team sports could make a return! Things like spring baseball games, tennis, golf and other outdoor activities may be allowed under the new restrictions. In addition to this, we may also see a further easing of youth sport and recreational activities though it’s unclear what this could mean.

CASINOS

Jonesing to get your gamble on? Things like bingo halls and casinos as well as racing centres are on the docket for step 3.

INDOOR SOCIAL AND RELIGIOUS GATHERINGS

This is a big one, folks! Indoor social gatherings with restrictions may be allowed as part of the next phase, however, we can’t say how many people the government will allow in a single home or if this will be limited to family members only.

INDOOR SEATED EVENTS AND ENTERTAINMENT

Lastly, places of worship, museums, art galleries, zoos, interpretive centres and movie theatres may also be given the green light, likely with limited capacity – but this is something we’ve just come to expect.

Now, friends – these are not set in stone, so don’t be shocked, appalled and upset when and if anything is adjusted. As we’ve said, this could all change in an instant!
