Walk the walk: Here’s how one of Toronto’s most popular areas is getting even better

Here’s an exciting update— The Toronto Downtown West BIA , home to Toronto’s Entertainment District, has major plans for one of the hottest neighbourhoods in town. According to a brand-new plan, it’s going to become more connected, more entertaining and more beautifule.

The BIA just released a Growth and Development Framework in response to the tremendous unprecedented growth in the area. The framework is basically a blueprint that will guide the City and developers to shaping future development in the district.

Now here’s the truly exciting part-the framework focuses on upgrading the public realm, which means Toronto locals and visitors get to enjoy these much-needed enhancements. The plan outlines three key areas— Pedestrian Realm Network and Park Space System, Streetscapes and Uses at Grade.

So, what does this mean for us?

Well, a more pedestrian-friendly and community-focused (yes, more than it already is!) downtown neighbourhood with more space for socializing, special events and recreation. The urban vibe of the streets will become a lot more inviting and connected. And the overall experience of exploring the best of art, culture, culinary and entertainment worlds will become a lot more amazing.

On the off chance, you aren’t all too familiar with the Downtown West BIA, it’s the breathing hub of arts, culture, hospitality, sports, business and all things happening in the city. As such, it is also home to all the iconic buildings that make up Toronto’s cityscape. Think CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium, Rogers Centre, Scotiabank Arena and many more.
