It’s pretty safe to say that our furry friends became more important than ever over the past two years. But, how do Canada’s most popular dog names compare to the rest of the world? A new ranking has uncovered some interesting trends, and we want to share what they found with you!
The roundup comes from content marketing agency Neomam Studios, on behalf (weirdly) of Budget Direct. But it seems like they did their due diligence, so we’re rolling with it.

For female dogs, Canada gets to say that we picked a popular name, but not the most popular one around. The name Bella was apparently the most popular name for 2021 in Canada. And while we share the preference with our neighbours to the south, it was actually Luna that took the top spot globally.
The same is more or less true for male dog names. The most popular name in Canada this year was Charlie, but that’s apparently only half as popular as a real iconic dog name- Max. Come on world, we know that there can be a little more inspiration than that.
We say take Egypt’s lead. If you didn’t notice in the infographic, the most popular female dog name in that country is, if you can believe it, Vodka. Not what we expected at all. Maybe from Russia, but definitely not the land of the pyramids.
