The city is where it’s at, but occasionally you might catch yourself thinking about how fulfilling farm life would be. Believe us when we say you’re not alone. In fact, our fascination with agriculture and pet ownership has become so prevalent that officials have announced the launch of the Calgary urban hen licensing program – to begin on March 21st.
Meant to delight those who dream of fresh eggs, more responsibility and companionship, this program will give Calgarians the opportunity to adopt and raise up to 4 hens as their pets.
“We heard from Calgarians that modern pet ownership means more than just caring for cats and dogs,” said Jennifer Lawlor, Strategic Services Leader, Calgary Community Standards in a press release.

For the first year only 100 people will be chosen to receive a license and must meet the following criteria:
If however, applicants exceed 100 people, a lottery system will be used to choose participants; so keep keep in mind that it’s not be a sure thing even if you submit any and all paperwork.
