This Ontario park has a jaw-dropping forest dotted with blue lakes

The outdoors is calling! Here in Ontario, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful destination than Halfway Lake Provincial Park.

This spot is home to an extraordinary 4,000-hectare swath of rugged and forested Canadian Shield.

For those who don’t know, the Canadian Shield is an ancient bedrock landscape that is billions of years old.

According to Ontario Parks, the park is located at the southern edge of the vast boreal forest, which is one of the world’s largest ecosystems.

There are many types of trees here but the main ones are Jack Pine, Black Spruce, and Trembling Aspen, with some White Pines in the mix.

There is no shortage of wildlife either, from bald eagles and osprey to moose and even the rare lynx!

As you may guess from the name, Halfway Lake is home to many breathtaking lakes too.

The park is dotted with sparkling blue bodies of water set among the rocky hills and boreal forest.

You can hike to these lakes or observe them from a distance along one of the many hiking trails.

You can also paddle on the water on a kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddle board which can be rented at the park.

According to Ontario Parks, the Two Narrows Canoe Route takes you through a chain of lakes.

Antrim Lake is an easily accessible lake from the park that is surrounded by cliffs and incredible wildlife.

There are two buoyed beaches for swimming, as well as a sprawling campground and backcountry campsites.

The landscape of Halfway Lake is the result of erosion that took billions of years, forming the valleys and cliffs, and lakes we see today says Ontario Parks.

This fascinating history makes us even more appreciative of this amazing natural playground right here in Ontario.
