“Let’s just put really good stuff between bread”- The inventor of the sandwich, probably. The combinations of bread to filling is literally almost infinite in this city, but no worries. We’ve hunted down 8 of the best sandwiches in Toronto, from egg to veal to zucchini. Your lunch break is sovled, you’re welcome!
THE VEAL GODFATHER
Undoubtedly one of the absolute best sandwiches in Toronto, this formidable sammy weighs in at a pound and a half. It comes stacked high with veal, tomato sauce, caramelized onion, mozzarella, roasted red pepper, sautéed mushrooms, and jalapeños. Good luck finishing this thing, you’ll enjoy every last second.

THE EH BAE BAE
Eh bae bae, eh bae bae, we love this thing! House-cured sweet and spicy bacon, Muenster, arugula, pickled shallots, Bae sauce, and a cloud of fluffy scrambled eggs atop a soft egg bun. It’s breakfast time, bae bae.
Where: Egg Bae, 189 Augusta Ave
JALAPEÑO AND HONEY FRIED CHICKEN
Holy cluck, this thing is insane! Insanely spicy for our gentle palette, but so worth the burn. Pickled peppers, jalaps, ranch, honey-drizzled fried chicken… it’s what dreams are made of.
Where: PG Clucks, 384 Bloor St W
There’s veal twice on here already because apparently, Toronto does wicked veal. This family-owned shop puts together tenderized scallopini cutlet lightly breaded and then gently baked and topped with their famous tomato sauce. It’s wickedly good.
Where: Agincourt Bakery, 3059 Pharmacy Ave, Scarborough
THE PHILLY CHEESESTEAK
How many inches of AAA ribeye steak, melted provolone, and caramelized onion would we eat? Approximately 10. Wow, we’ve met our perfect match here! Didn’t even have to go to Philadelphia.
Where: Illstyl3 Sammies, 300 Richmond St W
THE MIND BLOWING CHICKEN
Maha, what have you done? Everything right, apparently. This massive pile pf chicken, tomato, parsley, onion, and mayo/tahina sauce isn’t the most beautiful, but it’s absolutely delicious.
Where: Maha’s, 226 Greenwood Ave
This thing is taller than us, so we’re going to make like a snake and unhook our jaw to enjoy it. Telera buns, breaded steak, ham, pastrami, chipotle pork, hot dogs, egg, refried beans, *breathes in* tomato, onion, avo, mayo, and mozza. Yes, that’s all on this one sandwich.
Where: Tenoch, 933 St. Clair Ave W
Don’t need meat to make a delicious sando, pals! Get this Portugese bun piled with eggplant, Roma tomato, red pepper, arugula, fontina, and garlic sauce. Mmmmm.
